ACCC Inquiry into petrol pricing

The ACCC has commenced its inquiry into petrol pricing due to the worrying allegations of price fixing/profiteering and anti-competiveness by Coles and Woolworths.

Read the Age article for further info and a good read is the ACCC website. Especially the submissions by Woolworths and Coles.

Submissions have been also received from Mobil, BP, APCO, Service Stations Association and 30+ other groups and individuals - see here http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/790926/fromItemId/790921

These can be read as pdf files.

Here is a section from the Coles submission -
"Australian consumers have enthusiastically embraced shopper docket
schemes. In excess of three million docket redemptions occur in the industry
each week, and there are now well in excess of 100 fuel discount schemes
operating in Australia, offered by retailers and other businesses both large
and small.
We estimate that consumers across Australia are saving a significant amount
off their fuel bills annually through the various shopper docket schemes thus
helping to lower the cost of living for many Australian households."
